Fines

Fines are a way of encouraging persons to return materials by the due date so that they can be made accessible to other patrons.

Patrons should be encouraged to clear all fines off their account.  However, once a patron has a fine of less than $5.00, they would still be allowed to borrow materials.  If their fine is $5.00 or more, the Alexandria system automatically prevents the patron from borrowing any items.  This fine must be paid in part or fully, before their borrowing privileges are restored.

Fines are also charged for lost or damaged materials.  Books or any other material should not be accepted as payment of a fine for lost or damaged items.

Calculating fines

Fines are calculated at:

  • $0.05 per day for books
  • $1.00 per day for magazines
  • $3.00 per day for audio books on CDs

Any item that is not in by the due date would be charged a fine for that day and every day after until it is returned to the Library.

A fine for lost or damaged items is calculated by adding $10.00 to the cost price of the item.

Replacement of chit $2.50
