About Us

The National Public Library, Archives and Documentation Services was established to provide to users with comprehensive and relevant information for educational, recreational, cultural and research purposes.

Library services in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been in existence since 1893.

The Public Library Act (CAP. 294), commencement 20th June, 1950, made provision for the reorganization of the Free Public Library and provided for an efficient public library service throughout the country.

The Documentation Centre was established in 1982 while the National Archives was established in 1990.

There are twenty-one (21) branch libraries located in communities throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines. 

The National Public Library, Archives and Documentation Services is located at Richmond Hill.  However, the National Archives and the Documentation Centre is located in a separate building, adjacent to the library.

The National Public Library, Archives and Documentation Services falls under the Ministry of Education.

Vision Statement

The Department of Libraries, Archives and Documentation Services seeks to establish a proactive role that will ensure democratic accountability and opportunities for research and also will enable the public to be completely satisfied with the services provided.
